After that encounter, I knew I needed to share why this wasn’t strange or foreign according to Scripture. Jesus appeared to people after He was resurrected. This has happened before. In Luke chapter 24, it says the women went to the tomb early in the morning. They found the stone rolled away, but they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. Suddenly, two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright, the women bowed down with their faces to the ground.
That stood out to me because I did the same thing. I instinctively bowed down in His presence. When you’re in front of the Lord, that’s what your body does. The angels said to the women, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen.” And later, when the women told the disciples what they had seen, the disciples didn’t believe them. Their words sounded like nonsense.
I understand that. I know some people listening to my story might think the same thing. Why would Jesus come to a laundromat? I don’t know His schedule. I just know He came. He appeared as a regular man, just like He did on the road to Emmaus, when He walked with two disciples and they were kept from recognizing Him. That’s what happened to me. I didn’t recognize Him until after He left.
Jesus also appeared to His disciples and said, “Peace be with you.” They were frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. But He said, “Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself. Touch me and see.” He wanted them to know He was real, that He had flesh and bones, that He had risen.
That’s why the verse means so much to me: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” I believe we really can see Him — when our hearts are pure. Jesus is alive. He is risen. And He still reveals Himself.
