Isaiah says, “Sing, O barren… enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of your habitation. Spare not. Lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.”
He is speaking to a barren woman, someone who has not seen the promise fulfilled. But by verse 13 it says, “All thy children shall be taught of the Lord, and great shall be the peace of thy children.” Something happened between verse 1 and verse 13. She did something.
She didn’t just sit in sorrow. She didn’t stay moping because she was barren. She stretched forth. She enlarged her tent. She prepared for what God promised.
We all have some form of barrenness in our lives. It may not be a child. It may be a book you want to publish, a dream you want to see fulfilled, a calling you haven’t walked into yet. The question is: Do we sit in jealousy and discouragement when others are blessed? Or do we sing? Do we stretch forth while we wait?
It is hard to receive from God while operating in negativity. But when you believe He is faithful, when you act as if His promise is coming, when you stretch forth instead of shrinking back — that’s when transformation begins.
