We are in Mark chapter 10, and Jesus is being questioned about divorce. The Pharisees knew the law. They knew Moses allowed a bill of divorcement. But Jesus said Moses wrote that because of the hardness of your hearts. That was not the original design.
From the beginning, God made them male and female. The two shall become one flesh. They are no longer two, but one. What God has joined together, let no man separate.
And then Jesus makes it plain. If a man divorces his wife and marries another, he commits adultery. If a woman divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery. That applies even if you already finalized the divorce. Even if you waited until after. Even if nothing physical happened before.
If that other person was already in your heart, already in your plan, already in your sight, Jesus calls it adultery.
Now this is not about condemnation. This is about warning. There are attacks that come against Christian marriages. Distractions. Temptations. Opportunities that look easier. And if you entertain those thoughts and then divorce and marry that person, it is still adultery according to the Lord.
If you have already done this, repent. Ask for forgiveness. Pray blessing over the spouse you left. Cover your current marriage in prayer. God wants us to be holy. He wants us to guard our hearts. The Kingdom of God has higher standards.
And if you are on the verge of divorce, let this be a warning. Pray. Fast. Reconcile if you can. Do not entertain another person in your heart. Guard your covenant.
